Inside Story

Is apartheid in South Africa over?

It has been 25 years since the official end of segregation and white minority rule.

It was in 1994 that 46 years of apartheid came to an end and South Africans voted for a new future with a new President Nelson Mandela.

During his five years in power, Mandela boosted spending on health and education, trying to bridge the huge gap between black and white communities.

But today, his African National Congress (ANC) party is accused of not doing enough.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the day apartheid ended is one that won’t be forgotten.

But how different is the country a quarter of a century on? How much is the racial divide still an issue in the rainbow nation?
