Moroccan authorities have rounded up what they call a terrorist group accused of planning al-Qaeda-type attacks in the North African country – and, in an unprecedented move, have banned a small Islamist political party allegedly linked to it.

The recently-formed party competed in parliamentary elections last September but won no seats.

The group was said to have been plotting to assassinate ministers, army officers and members of Morocco’s small Jewish community.
