Is Egypt ready for international investment?

As President Sisi hosts economic development summit, critics question whether the country is safe and ready.

Heads of state, global chief executives and delegates from more than a hundred countries are attending a foreign investor conference in Egypt.

The three-day event is being hosted by Egyptian president and former military chief Abdel Fattah el-Sisi at the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

It is hoped the summit will help Egypt recover from four years of political and social upheaval following the 2011 uprising.

Dozens of projects worth billions of dollars are being touted to potential partners.

But critics are questioning whether the climate is right for investment, and whether Egypt is serious about democratic change and human rights.

In short, is it safe – and ready?
