Could changing our diets save the planet?

On Tuesday, April 20 at 19:30GMT:
In his new book “Animal, Vegetable, Junk” author and journalist Mark Bittman takes us through the history of humans and food, from our days as hunter-gatherers to our current industrial farming model, and argues that how we eat is putting our planet in danger.

“Civilizations live or die by the strength and resilience of their food systems,” writes Bittman. “You can’t talk about agriculture without talking about the environment.”

Bittman says there are two ways to grow food. You grow it to feed yourself,  your family and your neighbours or you grow it to sell. It’s the latter he believes is exacerbating climate change.

In this episode, we sit down with Bittman to discuss his latest book and to ask him whether changing what we eat could save the planet.

This is one of four episodes of The Stream in support of Covering Climate Now, a global journalism collaboration strengthening coverage of the climate story.
