One on One

Paul Carrack

The musician reflects on the inspiration behind his singing and songwriting.

Paul Carrack’s musical talents extend far beyond his distinctive vocals in pop songs since the 1970s with bands such as Ace, Mike & the Mechanics, and Squeeze.

As a song writer and multi-instrumentalist, he has managed to keep a low profile through the decades while collaborating with some of the most popular singers, including Elton John, Ringo Star, and the band The Eagles.

Born in northern England, Paul Carrack was influenced by the musical interests of his family and taught himself to play instruments from a young age.

He says: “I got bitten very badly by the musical bug and that was it. There’s no looking back really.”

Since his debut single How Long Has This Been Going On? in 1975, Paul Carrack has continued to produce hits that resonate with audiences around the world.

He talks about the inspiration behind his singing and songwriting in the past decades.
