US releases Saudi Guantanamo prisoner Ahmed al-Darbi

The Saudi national is the first convict to leave the US base in Cuba since President Donald Trump took office.

    The United States has released its first prisoner from the Guantanamo Bay detention centre under President Donald Trump.

    The US military says Ahmed al-Darbi's transfer to Saudi Arabia is part of a 2014 plea deal to serve out the remainder of his sentence there.
