Chile sees spike in COVID-19 deaths as lockdown falters

Chile’s government is criticised for not implementing a stricter lockdown early on to stop the spread of coronavirus.

In Chile, the COVID-19 death toll has passed 3,300 – one of the highest death rates in the world.

One reason is a month-long lockdown in the coronavirus epicentre, the capital Santiago, has not worked.

Some officials say the city needs to impose complete isolation.
