UN special envoy to Syria calls for end to fighting in northwest

US calls for new ceasefire in Syria as rival forces clash in Idlib in country’s northwest.

The UN and US special envoys to Syria have called for an end to the heavy fighting in Idlib, where three million civilians live.

Syrian government forces and the Russian military are trying to take out the rebels in the northwest in the last major patch of the territory they hold.

But despite the pleas, there’s not much sign that Syrian and Russian forces are listening.
