India continue their dominant march to another Asia Cup title with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over archrivals Pakistan in Dubai.

Terence Crawford has clinched a unanimous victory over Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to become the undisputed super middleweight champion in a thrilling contest at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Crawford set the pace from the start on Saturday night with a measured display that showcased his incredible hand speed and precise footwork, as the judges scored the fight 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113 in favour of the American.

In our other live coverage of the day, Manchester City’s goal-scoring machine Erling Haaland struck twice in a 3-0 Premier League football thrashing of Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium, giving Pep Guardiola’s side bragging rights in the latest edition of the derby.

Phil Foden also scored for City in his first start of the season, heading in Jeremy Doku’s cross in the 18th minute. Doku squeezed brilliantly through United’s defence and had his first cross blocked, but dug out a second that Foden leapt to guide in.

Pakistan will next take on the UAE on Wednesday in Dubai.

India face Oman in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

A major post-match talking point will be the Indian team’s decision to avoid shaking hands with their Pakistani counterparts.

A lot of questions were raised by the Indian media and fans about whether their players would greet the opponents before and after the match.

Well, they got their answer when Suryakumar Yadav kept walking off the ground after hitting the winning runs and did not so much as look back at the Pakistani players.

The Indian squad and support staff also walked back into the dressing room instead of walking out for the traditional post-match handshakes.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav, on what happens to be his birthday, receives birthday chants from the fans: “It is a great feeling [to win on your birthday] and a perfect return gift to India.

“It keeps running in your mind [when playing against Pakistan] – it is a human tendency when playing a game like this – you always have something ready.

“This is one box I always wanted to tick, to stay there and bat till the end.

“For me and the whole team, we just see it as another game. We prepare the same for all the opposition teams.”

On going in with four spinners, Suryakumar said: “That is what happened a few months back with our Champions Trophy-winning team, who set the tone. I am always a fan of spinners because they control the game in the middle overs.

“This is the perfect occasion to take the time out [to say] we stand by the families of the victims of Pahalgam [where 26 civilians were killed in a shooting attack in India-administered Kashmir in April]. We express our solidarity.

“We want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces, who have shown a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all. We just want to make them smile.”

For his splendid bowling figures of 3 for 18 in four overs, Kuldeep Yadav is awarded player of the match.

He had this to say at the presentation: “I just kept it simple. Just executed the plan.

“You just have to think about who is batting and react to what their strengths are and what they are trying to achieve.

“[The] first ball is always a wicket-taking ball. You have to go with that mindset. Whoever is batting may be new to the crease or is facing you for the first time. It is a chance to get on top of him.

“I need to work hard on my bowling. Sometimes, I try too many variations. I have to learn day by day and game by game. There is still lots of room for improvement.”

Afghanistan, who sit at the top of Group B, take on Bangladesh in what is a must-win encounter for the latter.

That is set to take place in Abu Dhabi with coverage starting at 12:30 GMT.

With two wins out of two matches played, India continue to rule Group A with four points.

Pakistan take second spot with two points after two matches.

Oman holds on to third spot with zero points on account of a healthier net run rate than the UAE, who take the final spot.

The India captain finishes unbeaten on 47 off 37 balls.

The innings was set up by the attacking brilliance of Abhishek, who produced 31 off 13 balls to get India off to a flying start.

Once he perished, Suryakumar and Tilak fashioned an important 56-run stand for the third wicket to put India on course for a rather comfortable victory in the end.

Ayub was the only Pakistan bowler to pick up wickets, finishing with 3 for 35 in his four overs.

Suryakumar gets one in the slot, and proceeds to hammer a massive blow over the deep mid-wicket rope to end the match in some style.

Ball tracking shows the ball going on to clip the leg stump, but because of the umpire’s initial not-out call, Pakistan are unable to prise another here.

Muqeem gets one to spin away from Suryakumar, who is late on the ball with an attempted sweep.

The bowler is adamant it is out, but the umpire remains nonplussed. Eventually, Salman decides to take it upstairs.

In what might be the final over of the innings, Salman has thrown the ball to Muqeem.

Perhaps Shaheen should have been brought in?

So far so good for Pakistan as two runs are allowed off the first two balls.

Dube announces himself with a lusty blow down the ground to make it just five runs needed now for the men in blue.

Ayub finishes his spell with figures of 3 for 35.

Ayub is on for his final over. Suryakumar could choose to see him off, but this is Suryakumar we are talking about.

He immediately sends the spinner’s first ball to the deep square leg boundary with a powerful slog sweep. It reduces the equation down to 14 off 35 balls.
