UK city tries to defuse post-riot tensions

Community leaders in Birmingham urge religious and ethnic groups to come together after deaths.

Community leaders in the UK city of Birmingham are working to defuse tensions following the deaths of three men during this week’s riots.

A Sikh community TV station has played an important role in the last few days by encouraging new levels of participation journalism, and urging communities to come together.

Although using a different style, an Afro-Caribbean radio station has also pushed forward the same message, with community leaders emphasising the fact that the riots were not race-related.
