DRC government to force families to leave mines

Thousands of families living near lucrative cobalt mines are to be forced to make way for foreign mining companies.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, authorities want to pay around 10 thousand families to move away from lucrative cobalt mines to make way for foreign mining companies.

But as Al Jazeera’s Haru Mutasa reports, many people are refusing to leave because they do not trust the government to provide fair compensation.
