Sri Lanka’s new leader promises to unite country

Buddhist nationalist group Bodu Bala Sena, which means Army of Buddhist Power, is accused of inciting hate and taking part in violent attacks on Sri Lanka’s minority Muslim and Christian communities in recent years.

Sri Lanka has suffered decades of religious and ethnic violence.

The newly-elected president, Gotabaya Rajapaksa has promised to unite the country.

Yet, there remains deep distrust among the country’s minority groups that voted overwhelmingly against him.
