Man convicted of Mogadishu attack executed on bombing anniversary

One year ago, a massive bomb blast tore through the centre of Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, killing more than 500 people and injuring hundreds more.

A memorial ceremony has been held in Somalia on the first anniversary of the largest-ever bomb blast in the country.

The man accused of orchestrating the explosion has been executed by firing squad.

Reconstruction has begun on buildings destroyed and damaged in the blast, but the toll on human lives lingers on for many of the Somalis who were there.
