Rock and roll pioneer Fats Domino has died in the United States at the age of 89.

Rock and roll pioneer Fats Domino has died in the United States at the age of 89.

Domino was one of the biggest recording artists of the 1950s, with hits including his signature song, Blueberry Hill.

He got his start in New Orleans’ vibrant music scene and went on to break down barriers as one of the first black rock and roll stars to achieve mainstream fame.

He spent his last years campaigning the for the revitalisation of the Crescent City after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
