The global slump in oil prices has hit Venezuela hard, and now Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan president, has tried to capitalise on one of his country’s other natural resources – gold.
Late last year, a Russian company took over half of the Isidora gold mine and this joint venture is creating jobs and putting money back into the Venezuelan community. Al Jazeera’s Gabriel Elizondo travelled to El Callao in Venezuela to explore the mine and meet the workers.
