her life and work

On Monday’s Riz Khan Show Riz speaks to award-winning American author, poet and activist Alice Walker. Perhaps she is best known for her book The Color Purple that has been translated to both the stage and screen. It is the unforgettable and inspiring story of a woman named Celie, who finds her unique voice in the world.

She is also the author of many collections of short stories, essays, poems and children’s books. Her recent children’s book Why War is Never a Good Idea was published earlier this year.

As an activist and social visionary Alice Walker has been a participant in many of the major movements of change, among them the Civil Rights Movement in the American South, the Women’s Movement and the Free South Africa Movement.
