European central bank: Draghi hands over to Lagarde

French president and German chancellor on Monday lauded Mario Draghi for defending ‘the European dream’ in face of opposition as he handed over divided ECB to Christine Lagarde.

There is a new face in charge of Europe‘s central bank.

Mario Draghi has handed over the presidency of the European Central Bank to former International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde – after eight years as the bank’s president.

It has been a turbulent reign for Draghi – who has had to deal with threats to the Eurozone and the Greek bailout.
