Puerto Rico protests: New governor faces confirmation vote

Pierluisi is a former justice minister who also served as Puerto Rico’s representative to Washington.

Puerto Rico‘s new interim governor is facing a possible challenge in the senate.

Pedro Pierluisi took office on Friday. But the senate leader is calling on members to declare his swearing-in unconstitutional.

He is also facing opposition on the streets, where protesters who forced his predecessor out of office have been rallying in the capital San Juan.

Al Jazeera’s Gabriel Elizondo reports.
