Police violence worsens in Brazil’s poor neighbourhoods

Despite many questionable police killings, no Rio de Janeiro police officer has yet been convicted or jailed.

The Brazilian president swept to power on a promise he would be tough on crime.

President Jair Bolsonaro demonstrated that most strongly in his home state of Rio de Janeiro.

However, It has a long history of police abuse as officers have battled drug gangs with innocent people getting caught in the crossfire.

As Al Jazeera’s Daniel Schweimler reports from Rio, that situation is getting worse.
