The United Nations has criticised Israel's closure of the primary passageway for basic goods to residents of the besieged Gaza Strip. Tel Aviv made the move in response to Palestinians launching incendiary kites across the border. Only humanitarian aid, medical supplies and food are being allowed in.

Hamas leaders say shutting the Karam Abu Salem crossing is a crime against the Palestinian people.

Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett reports from Gaza.
