    The United Nations is calling for the urgent evacuation of 500 patients besieged in the Syrian suburb of Eastern Ghouta, while 400,000 civilians remain trapped under government bombardments.

    Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to find a solution to the six-year war at UN-brokered talks in Geneva are also stalling because of the government delegation's refusal to engage in direct talks with the opposition.
