Reza Zarrab testifies against Turkish official in sanctions case

A Turkish gold trader, previously the subject of a US investigation, has turned witness in a case against a Turkish official, fraying the already tense relationship between the US and Turkey.

A Turkish gold trader has gone from being the target of a US investigation to the government’s star witness in a case that is straining relations between Washington and Ankara.

Reza Zarrab says he paid Turkey’s former economy minister Zafer Caglayan tens of millions of dollars in bribes to launder money on behalf of Iran, in violation of US sanctions.
