Dijon downpours cause chaos

Spring is finally breaking through across Europe with temperatures starting to recover at long last. Indeed despite the fact that this is a bank holiday weekend in the UK, some parts look set to see their warmest weather of the year so far.

Across the English Channel, eastern France has had a thoroughly wet start to May. Early in the week, a slow moving area of low pressure ground to halt over the Germany-France border, and its been raining ever since.

As the pictures show, the central eastern parts of France have been worst affected with the Ouche river overflowing into the streets of Dijon. The wet weather may well last another few days before high pressure topples in from the Atlantic to quieten things down.

Meanwhile, not too far away, we have also seen some lively weather on the other side of the Alps. On Friday a tornado hit the Emilio Romagna region of
Northern Italy damaging hundreds of buildings and injuring at least 12 people. This is the same area was devastated by an earthquake in May 2012.
