Lashed by stormy weather
Strong winds and heavy rain, triggered by Tropical Storm Saola, have caused havoc across the Philippines.

Tropical Storm Saola never made landfall in the Philippines, but that didn’t stop it causing widespread damage.

Worst hit was the capital, Manila, where three people lost their lives and another six are still missing.

Debris is everywhere
Although the storm remained over 250 km to the east of the main island of Luzon, the destruction was widespread.

The winds have now eased
One of the worst-hit cities is the capital Manila, where the strong winds forced two barges into people(***)s homes.
Residents try to salvage materials
At least three person were killed and millions are still without power.
Swimming through the floodwater
Debris is everywhere, meaning navigating the floods is even more treacherous.
Finding safety
Filipinos who fled their flooded homes had been forced to take refuge at evacuation centres.
The storm now heads northwards
Tropical Storm Saola is still strengthening as it heads north. It is expected to pass close to Taiwan on the Thursday 2 July.
