Former Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso has said that the latest breed of Formula One cars are too ugly to be racing in the sport.
New regulations have forced plenty of new designs on the grid for this season and the noses have attracted a lot of attention, resulting in lots of awkward-looking solutions.
Alonso’s Ferrari F14 T has been labelled a ‘vacuum cleaner’ as it features a significant bump in the nose and looks are something that could not be ignored on the grid, according to the Spaniard.

“They are uglier,” Alonso said in an interview with CNN. “I think we have to be honest with our fans and ourselves first of all.
“They are not good enough because people look to Formula One for excellence of motorsport, of aerodynamics, excellence of performance and technology. And when you see those front parts of the car, it doesn’t look like all the things I said.”
Toro Rosso’s STR9 ‘finger-style nose’ has also attracted a lot of criticism after it was unveiled.
“I think we will find different solutions. The engineers are clever enough to make the car fast and also beautiful.”
