Tottenham are still waiting for win

Tottenham again let victory slip from their grasp late on against Swansea with a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

In the early kick-off, West Ham comfortably defeated Fulham with three first-half goals. 

Andre Villas-Boas’ team are without a win and have two points from three matches which is unlikely to satisfy ambitious Tottenham fans who saw their team finish in the top four last season. The Portuguese manager took over from Harry Redknapp after a brief spell as manager of Champions League winners Chelsea.

Following his $24 million move from London rivals Fulham, Mousa Dembele marked his Tottenham debut by coming off the bench to delight the home fans with the opening goal but the Canaries fought back.

Robert Snodgrass netted a late but deserved Norwich equaliser in the 84th minute.

There was more disappointment for Spurs when Tom Huddlestone was given a straight red for mistimed tackle on Jonny Howson.

Spurs had been busy in the run-up to Friday’s transfer deadline, recruiting United States forward Clint Dempsey from Fulham, plus France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris but neither had signed in time to feature.

But they were unable to recruit Portugal midfielder Joao Moutinho, and with Luka Modric and Rafael van der Vaart having departed, AVB’s team appear significantly short of sufficient quality for a title challenge.

New Norwich manager Chris Hughton had also began the afternoon in search of a first league win following an opening day defeat and a draw the following week.

The high-flying Swans are still unbeaten in the league following a 2-2 draw with Sunderland. 

Steven Fletcher scored twice to give Sunderland the lead but goals from Wayne Routledge and Michu ensured new manager Michael Laudrup another happy day as Swansea boss.

The Welsh club have seven points from three games, while Sunderland have two points in two matches.

West Brom are also unbeaten after a 2-0 home win over Everton.

Two goals from Shane Long and Gareth McAuley condemned Toffees to their first defeat and denied them from going level on points with Chelsea. 

Peter Crouch earned Stoke a third straight point in the Premier League with a late equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Wigan.

The England striker scored from Jon Walters’ cross in the 76th minute to deny Wigan a second victory of the season.

Shaun Maloney put Wigan ahead in the fifth minute from the penalty spot after Robert Huth was adjudged to have handled but Walters converted his own penalty in the 40th.

The home side reclaimed the lead four minutes after the break through Franco Di Santo’s low finish, his fifth goal in his last eight league matches.

Crouch then equalised and debutant Charlie Adam nearly earned all three points for Stoke late on, a day after joining from Liverpool.

In the late kick-off, reigning champions Manchester City are at home against QPR.
