Hundreds of thousands of Gurkhas are on strike in eastern India’s Himalayan region. It’s the ninth week of protest as they demand their own state within India.

All shops, businesses, hotels and schools have been closed since mid-June. Tea has not been harvested from hundreds of plantations.
