Report: UK ageing population fears overstated

Influential journal challenges fears over rate of Britain's ageing population, says problem is overstated by government.

The speed at which the UK's population is ageing has been described as a ticking timebomb.

But a new report in the influential British Medical Journal says the problem has been overstated.

It challenges fears that the state won't be able to support the elderly, and says that over 65's shouldn't automatically be seen as dependent.

Al Jazeera's Kim Vinnell reports from London.
