John Terry’s on-off career

Former England captain’s retirement comes after his performances on the pitch were marred by controversy off the field.

John Terry, the Chelsea captain, retired from international football on Sunday, saying his position was being made untenable.

Terry has been attending a Football Association hearing into alleged racism, even though he was cleared in July of a criminal charge to the same incident.
