The US is investing millions of dollars in a new centre designed to recycle used plastic bags, turning them into batteries that can power everything from smartphones to electric cars.

Al Jazeera's John Hendren spent a day at the government laboratory near Chicago where scientists have made a breakthrough in green technology.
