The Gaza Strip is home to one 1,8 million Palestinians and it is one of the most densely populated tracks of land in the world. The people of Gaza have experienced military occupation, civil war, an economic blockade and international isolation.

As the Gaza Strip continues to be a centre of conflict between Israel and Hamas, Al Jazeera examines the events over the past years that have led to the current crisis. Why has it all gone wrong and how did the present conflict begin?
