Will election run-off usher in new era for Argentina?
Conservative candidate Mauricio Macri’s strong showing in presidential vote has surprised many analysts.
Mauricio Macri, the mayor of Buenos Aires and opposition presidential candidate, has surprised many by his strong showing in Sunday’s election.
Macri is running on a campaign of change after 12 years of leadership by the Kirchners, incumbent President Cristina and her late husband and predecessor Nestor.
Daniel Scioli, his main challenger, was chosen by Kirchner and had been leading in pre-election opinion polls.
Scioli has promised to continue the Kirchners’ policies and fix Argentina’s many problems, especially the economy.
As voters prepare to select one of the two men in a run-off vote, we ask will the election usher in a new era in the Latin American country?
