Inside Story

Turning point in Yemen’s war?

Pro-government forces have regained control over most of country’s south, as Houthi rebels continue to hold the capital.

Houthi rebels in Yemen are on the back foot, as pro-government forces – loyal to the exiled President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi – continue to recapture significant amounts of territory.

Most of southern Yemen is now held by forces loyal to Hadi. They have pushed the rebels from Loder, the last town in Abyan province still under Houthi control.

But there is still heavy fighting in Shabwa and other central provinces, and the Houthis remain firmly in control of the capital, Sanaa.

On Inside Story, we ask if the latest battleground victory is a major turning point.
