Inside Story

Are airlines keeping us safe?

The fate of AirAsia flight is once again raising questions about air safety.

The disappearance of AirAsia flight QZ8501 has, for the second time this year, shone a spotlight on flight safety.

The plane disappeared on Sunday after it took off from the Indonesian city Surabaya, on its way to Singapore.

And its disappearance has prompted a similar mix of anguish and mystery that followed the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines plane nine months ago.

Should the world be more worried about aviation safety? And are airlines doing all they can to track their planes?
