Tony Blair, the former British prime minister, is due to meet with the international quartet of key Middle East peacemakers on Thursday to try to reach an agreement on his new role as their envoy.

He is said to want a wider remit than the one outlined so far – namely, to mobilise aid for the Palestinians, and to help promote their economic, social and governmental growth.

Will Blair get what he wants, and how successful can he be in brokering an end to the conflict?

Inside Story looks at the issues.
