Catalonia seeks split from debt-ridden Spain

Upcoming election in wealthy region could be referendum on independence from Madrid.

    With upcoming elections in their wealthy region, more residents of Catalonia are calling for independence from debt-ridden Spain.

    A September pro-autonomy march in Barcelona, capital of Catalonia, more than one million people joined in the call for an independent state.
