Mexico seeks to stop US execution

Mexican government says death sentence handed to one its citizens is a breach of international law

Mexico is trying to stop the execution of one of its citizens on death row in the United States. Edgar Tamayo was convicted of killing a police officer in 1994 while in the US illegally.

But Mexican officials say he wasn’t given access to consular assistance – a breach of international law.

Al Jazeera’s Adam Raney reports from Tamayo’s home state of Morelos.
