Thousands of atheists, secularists and humanists have turned out in the US capital to celebrate their rejection of the idea of God and to claim a bigger place in public life.

Protesters in the "Reason Rally" on Saturday demonstrated against what they saw as the imposition of religion in American life and politics.

Al Jazeera's John Terrett reports from Washington.
