Egypt's tourism sector has taken a major hit in the wake of this year's political upheavals.

In a country where tourism is responsible for about 12 percent of employment, many in Egypt have been hard-hit by the downturn. Many tourist sites are nearly empty and souvenir stalls sit abandoned. Hotels and cafes are often found empty and tourist agencies often do not even open their doors.

Until the situation changes and tourists feel comfortable returning, Egypt's economy can expect major headwinds.
