Tensions rise in pro-Russia areas of Ukraine

Regions sympathetic to Moscow endeavour to resist tide of rebellion sweeping outwards from Kiev.

Ukraine’s acting president has said he wants to integrate with Europe as Russia recalled its ambassador for urgent consultations.

Tensions are rising in the country’s east, a political stronghold of the toppled President Viktor Yanukovich.

Yanukovich’s whereabouts are still a matter of intense speculation but if he is seeking sanctuary this would be where to find it.
