Cristiano Ronaldo will end his career in the Premier League, according to former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon.

Ronaldo, who was voted football’s best player of the year earlier this week, was lured away from Manchester United by Calderon and the Portugal star admitted former teammate Rio Ferdinand had tried persuading him to return to the club.

Ronaldo, who won the Ballon d’Or for the second time in his career, signed a new £15 million-a-year deal with the Spanish giants.

However, Calderon believes the Portugal captain may not see out the new contract and return to England instead.

“I do not think he will finish his career at Real, I feel that one day he will return to England,” Calderon told The Sun.

“In Madrid, he is pleased with the city and the fans. But I think his relationship with [Real president] Florentino Perez is not as good as it was with Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

“Ronaldo loves father figures. With Florentino, he does not have that rapport. The relationship is bad or actually non-existent.

Calderon admitted he feared Ronaldo leaving last summer before he signed the new deal.

“I have the feeling that Cristiano has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave when he wants.”
