Training sessions at Chelsea are “terrifying”, according to winger Florent Malouda, who has also blasted the diet of his Stamford Bridge team mates and the level of tactical play in matches in England.

The $26.86 million signing from Olympique Lyon aLso said players in the English Premier League switch their brains off when thet go on to the field.

“Training sessions are terrifying,” Malouda told the English newspaper the Daily Mail.

“They are just like matches, and you go flat out.

“During the actual games it is as though everybody’s brains are switched off. People play by instinct, spontaneously, in the way they did when they first discovered football.”

Malouda said he has been surprised at what he considers poor preparation for matches.

“The people at Chelsea don’t control what the players eat,” he said.

“You can help yourself to whatever you like, drink Coke or anything.

“It’s a good thing I came here when I was 27 and so haven’t been following the same diet as the rest of the players.”

Malouda has been sidelined since straining knee ligaments against Schalke in the Champions League a month ago but is anticipating a hectic Christmas schedule.

“I have been warned about the Christmas periods in English football,” he said.

“They sound terrible.”
