Patient: Baby Deep Malik

The 18-month-old was born with a hole in his heart and is undergoing treatment at Narayana Health.

Eighteen-month-old Deep Malik was born with a hole in his heart.

His parents Dilip and Aseema, and sister Paulomi, have travelled almost 1800km from their small farming village of Naugram in India’s West Bengal state to Narayana in Bangalore, for his heart surgery.

The family has made this long journey before. Nine-year-old Paulomi has had two heart surgeries, also at Narayana.

The hospital’s charity wing had helped pay for those operations. Now the family needs help again, not just with the cost of Deep’s surgery, but also with life in an expensive, big city, that is far from home.
