Woman wins Nigerian Quran contest

Amina Zubairu will represent her country in a Quran recital competition in Saudi Arabia.

Amina Zubairu, a 21-year-old woman, has won Nigeria’s national championship in Quran recital. She will now represent her country in an international competition in Saudi Arabia.

Zubairu has memorised more than 6,000 verses in the holy book of Islam, and can recite any verse of the Quran from any given starting point. 

She tells Al Jazeera about the competition and how she started to read the Quran when she was a child.
