Peru returns bodies of victims of 20-year war

The remains of victims from the 20-year conflict between the army and the Shining Path rebel group are being returned.

After years of investigation, the remains of some victims from the 20-year conflict between Peru’s army and the Shining Path rebel group are finally being returned to their families.

The war was launched in 1980, with both sides carrying out brutal killings.

The remains of 57 men, women and children have been recovered from mass graves scattered in clandestine sites across the country and returned to grieving families.
