There was no fairytale send-off for Steven Gerrard at Anfield as the home side slumped to a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace ‘s in Liverpool captain’s final home game for his club.
It was meant to be a happy swansong for Liverpool captain Gerrard in his final home game before he jets off to join the Lox Angeles Galaxy.

His Anfield hurrah was ruined though as Adam Lallana’s opener for Liverpool was cancelled out by a free kick from Jason Puncheon, a goal from Wilfried Zaha and a late effort from Glenn Murray.
Murray’s stoppage-time penalty was saved by Simon Mignolet before the Palace striker converted the rebound.
The loss also put Liverpool out of reckoning for a Champions League place with Manchester United sealing the fourth spot depite not being in action today.
Fastest hat-trick
Earlier, Southampton’s Senegal forward Sadio Mane rewrote the record books with the fastest hattrick in the English top-flight inside three minutes as they thrashed relegation-threatened Aston Villa 6-1.
His treble was timed at two minutes and 56 seconds breaking Scotland striker Graham Leggat’s record of three minutes for Fulham in a club record 10-1 win over Ipswich Town in 1963.
Mane also snatched Robbie Fowler’s record for the fastest Premier League treble hattrick which was four minutes and 33 seconds forLiverpool against Arsenal on August 28 1994.
