Schools become homes for Iraq’s refugees

Thousands of displaced Iraqis fleeing the advance of ISIL have been forced to live in Erbil’s public schools.

The conflict in Iraq has led to displacement of thousands of people with the UN warning of a humanitarian crisis.

Close to 1.8 million people are internally displaced, with the highest concentration in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.

According to UN estimates more than 5 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, but only 1.5 million have actually received any help.

Thousands of people are now living in public schools in cities like Erbil.
