EU leaders meet to discuss poll ‘earthquake’

French and UK leaders call for reduced EU role in domestic politics after Eurosceptic parties make huge gains.

Leaders of the European Union have been meeting in Brussels to discuss the results of the European parliamentary elections.

Far-right and Eurosceptic parties recorded unprecedented victories in France, the UK and Denmark. In Greece, the left-wing Syriza party , which opposes EU-imposed austerity measures, finished on top.
