Georgians pin hope on Hollande visit

Officials hope French president’s visit will help country to join NATO.

Officials in Georgia hope a visit by French Presiden Francois Hollande to the country will help its chances of joining NATO.

Hundreds of Georgian troops have already fought alongside NATO troops in Afghanistan and its leaders want membership of the military alliance in return.

US President Barack Obama has said there are no plans for Georgia, which fought a war with Russia in 2008, to join the organisation.
