Iran decries US denial of visa to UN envoy

Tehran fumes over denial of visa to UN envoy, who is alleged to have been part of 1979 US hostage crisis.

A dispute over Iran’s choice of its new ambassador to the UN is heating up.

Iran has described a decision by the United States to deny a visa to Tehran’s newly appointed UN ambassador over his alleged links to the 1979 US hostage crisis as “unacceptable”.

The US is concerned about the role that Hamid Abutalebi played in the Iranian Revolution, more than 30 years ago, with the Obama administration labelling him “not viable”.
